      Why Does an E-Cigarette Battery Lose Its Capacity Over Time?

      During repeated charging and discharging, the chemical components in a lithium ion battery begin to break down. Heat and chemical decomposition alter the electrolyte inside the battery and can cause oxidation. Since the breaking down of the battery affects its internal structure, the battery eventually loses its ability to hold a charge.       What Can I Do to Make My E-Cigarette Battery Last Longer?

      Keep Your Batteries Cool to Maximise Their Life

      The most important thing that you can do to prolong the life of your e-cigarette batteries is to avoid using, charging and storing them in high temperatures. Storing a lithium ion battery for one year at a temperature of 25° C reduces its maximum capacity permanently by about 20 percent. Storing a battery at 40° C for one year reduces its capacity by 35 percent. If you use your batteries in high-temperature conditions, you'll reduce their life even more quickly -- so try to keep your batteries cool.

      Avoid Overcharging Your Batteries

      A typical lithium ion battery is fully charged at 4.2 volts. You should never exceed a battery's target voltage when charging because doing so can drastically reduce the battery's life. Charging a battery to 4.35 volts, for example, reduces its life by about half.

      Use the Correct Charger for Your Battery

Fast charging adapters -- such as those included with some mobile phones -- can cause e-cigarette batteries to become overly hot during charging. The extreme heat can potentially cause a fire. Even if the added heat doesn't cause a fire, though, it will reduce the lifespan of the battery.
